Dogs Flying Out!

Shelter overcrowding is a big problem here in Carteret County and due to the recent drop in the economy, many pet owners have had to give up their pets. To help reduce the stresses on already limited resources of local shelters AND to help save more animal lives Veteranarians, volunteers and Rescue Agencies have joined forces to transport Shelter Dogs from Carteret County to Animal Shelters up north where overcrowding is not an issue.

The first group of dogs leaves Nov 14th out of Kinston...... there are a total of 7 dogs leaving on that flight. Four dogs will be going to New York and 3 to Pennsylvania. Originally, there was another dog scheduled to go to New York but her foster father fell in love; so Piper will be staying in Kinston (yay Piper)

This program represents efforts from MANY loving people, businesses and organizations:

  • Live Oak Veterinary Hospital
  • Newport Animal Clinic
  • Paradise Acres
  • Private Pilots
  • and countless volunteers here as well as through their trip!

The Pups desperately need your help! It costs us roughly $140.00 to have the dogs completely vetted; food/ supplies for the 2 week wait for their flights, money to give the pilots since they donate their time...... so in all we are looking at spending around $200 per dog! Here are some ways you can help save a dog:

  • Make donations to the Carteret County Humane Society Animal Shelter using the Donate button above or directly to our offices
  • Make a donation to Live Oak Veterinary Hospital - 252-504-2097
Can you help a dog in need? If you make a donation, please be sure to put this in the memo line:
Save the Pups... Send 'em North!

REMEMBER: No amount is too small and ALL donations are appreciated!

Cash, or shopping cards work the best.  We can use shopping cards from Wal-Mart®, Staples® and Lowes Home Improvement®.

Other items that can be donated and that we REALLY can use:
  • DRY dog, puppy, cat, and kitten food
  • Non scoopable cat litter
  • BLEACH
  • Dawn® with bleach alternative
  • Paper towels
  • Newspapers
  • 3x5” blank index cards
