The Carteret County Animal Shelter in Newport NC is a not-for-profit facility that takes in all stray and owner surrender animals for the entire county of Carteret. For residents of the county, there is no fee for drop off's and we work tirelessly with local and out of state rescue groups in an effort to find all animals new homes. We also adopt our animals to the general public.
We care for these animals as long as we can, but due to the fact that we are the only shelter in the entire county of Carteret, we unfortunately cannot keep animals forever.
Our staff and volunteers sincerely care about all the animals coming in and try their hardest to find the animals a furrever home. We also have programs to help with the cost of spaying and neutering.

Princess: She came to us nursing 5 puppies and once they were weaned, they were all placed for adoption. Princess was adopted first, and yes all pups have been adopted too!
